the history of surfing

the art of wave riding is one of the oldest practiced sports on the planet. Surfing started with wooden board originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago. The first surfers were fishermen who discovered riding waves as an efficient method of getting to shore with their catch.

There is no exact record when stand up surfing first became asport but in the 15 century kings and queens were big into the sport of "he'enalu" or wave-sliding, in old Hawaiian.
in the 1700s europians first met the Tahitians surfing on a expididiton to there country.
From that the europian explorers took back the ideas of wave riding and developed slowly into the surfing you know and here today.
